RURAL SOMERST Come and explore the timeless beauty of rural Somerset - rolling hills,
sweeping moorlands, ancient woodlands, special landscapes and Fantastic Golf! This
is a special place just waiting to be discovered. Relax and recharge by pottering

in some superb scenery (and more than a few great pubs!) along the way and of course
enjoy the views whilst playing a round of Golf.
Isle of Wedmore, one of Somerset’s
friendliest golf clubs, extend a warm welcome to our members and visitors including
societies and corporate visitors. The Isle of Wedmore Golf Club was founded in 1992
and is located just 15 minutes from Junction 22 of the M5. Many people ask why the
club is known as the ‘Isle of Wedmore’ Golf Club. The answer dates back to Saxon
times when Wedmore was completely surrounded by wet marshland and the Somerset Levels
were flooded. The Club emblem commemorates the historic peace treaty made in Wedmore
between King Alfred and the Danes in AD878. This marked a turning point in the fortunes
of the Kingdom of Wessex and the emergence of the English nation as a whole. Wedmore
is sited south of the Somerset Levels and the Mendip Hills, between Wells and Burnham-on-Sea
and south of Cheddar moor. The location benefits from breathtaking panoramic views
of the Mendip Hills, Cheddar Valley, Glastonbury Tor and the Somerset Levels.
