Hailed as a national hero in 1970, as he became the first British player to hold
both the British and US Open Championships for seventy years, he was awarded an O.B.E.
Tony Jacklin had a burning ambition to become the best and at the age of thirteen
he won the Lincolnshire Boys Championship - holding the title for the next two years.
The tender age of sixteen saw him adding the Lincolnshire Open to his successes,
beating the leading professional by nine strokes.
Turning professional in 1962 and becoming Rookie of the Year in 1963,
so named by no less than the great Henry Cotton.
Success after success has followed his career as he played in eight Ryder Cup matches
and four times for England in the World Cup.
Captain of 1985 in the European Ryder Cup Team brought a victory
which was the first win for Europe since 1957.
In 1987 he became TV Golf Commentator for the BBC.
