was the charismatic figure of Sam Snead.
Destined to become one of the golfing greats with a career that spanned over forty years of golfing success.
His longevity in the game being due to his unbounded enthusiasm,
and an elegant swing that was possibly the best in the games history.
Self taught , as he grew up in the backwoods of Virginia, the youngest son of five in a talented family,
he carved out clubs from the limbs of trees. Graduating to old cast off clubs and
eventually becoming a caddie at the Greenbner in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia.
As his talent became obvious he was supported by this clubs members
and he was encouraged to play on the professional circuit.
Success followed.
