Inspired by watching Jack Nicklaus - whom he considered to be "the greatest golfer in the history of the game" -
at the age of fourteen he began to play the game of golf himself.
Three years later he became the youngest ever player to win the English Amateur Championship.
Even at this young age he already possessed one of the most fluent and
elegant swings in the game to say nothing of being an extremely gifted putter.
Thus he entered the professional scene in 1976 to achieve this amazing record of wins and accolades.
