Taking easily to golf at an early age Colin Montgomerie proved to have a rare talent.
He won the Scottish Amateur Championship in 1987.
The next year saw him as Rookie of the Year with a 92nd place in the Order of Merit and over £60,000 in prize money.
This position was to alter by 1992 to third place and thus established him as one of the new European superstars.
