Hotels are given
a rating from one to five Stars -
the more stars the greater the range of facilities and the level of
service provided.
Hotels have to be licensed - All rooms must be en-suite or have private
bathrooms -
Dinner must be offered at least 5 nights a week.
3* - 4* and 5* Hotels must have a permanently staffed reception.
5* Hotels should have a lift to all floors and porter service.
GUEST ACCOMMODATION:
Guest Accommodation includes guesthouses, bed and
breakfasts, inns and farmhouses and are rated from 1 - 5 Diamonds.
These Diamond ratings are now being phased out and replaced by Star
ratings.
The transition will be complete by the end of 2007.
Because of this change it is important to establish whether the
accommodation provider is a Hotel or a Guest Accommodation.
The same minimum requirements for facilities and services applies
to all but
3* Guest Accommodation should offer a bathroom not shared with owners
and a wash basin in the bedroom if not en-suite.
5* Guest Accommodation will have all bedrooms en-suite.
SELF CATERING
:
Self Catering ratings are from 1 - 5 *
The more Stars - from one to five are awarded to self catering establishments
- the higher levels of quality you can expect.
Establishments at higher rating levels also have to meet some additional
requirements for facilities.
HOLIDAY
PARKS :
Holiday Parks, Touring Parks and Camping Parks are
now also assessed using Stars.
You will now find progressively higher standards of quality
from a One Star (acceptable) to a Five Star (exceptional) park.
